Root Canal Treatment

What is Root Canal Treatment?

Root canal treatment, also known as endodontic treatment, is a type of dental procedure used to treat an infected or inflamed tooth pulp. The procedure involves removing the damaged or infected pulp, and then cleaning and filling the resulting cavity with a suitable material.

Root canal treatment (RCT) is often necessary when a tooth has become severely infected or damaged, and is an effective way to save a damaged or infected tooth from extraction. However, it is important to note that not all teeth that are infected or inflamed require root canal treatment, and we will determine the best course of treatment for your individual needs.

How is it performed?

Root canal treatment is typically performed under local anesthesia to numb the area around the infected tooth. A small hole in the top of the tooth is made to access the pulp chamber and root canals. Special instruments are then used to remove the damaged or infected pulp, irrigate the area to remove any debris or bacteria, and shape the root canals for filling.

Once the pulp has been removed and the root canals have been cleaned and shaped, the canals are filled with a special material called gutta-percha. This helps to seal the canals and prevent future infections. Finally, a filling and/or a crown is put over the tooth to restore its functionality and protect it from further damage.

How many appointments does it usually take?

We may require upto 1-3 appointments to finish the process depending upon the severity of infection and multiple other factors. We also perform Single-Visit Root Canal Treatments for patients who can not visit multiple times.

You’ll feel the difference the moment you take that first step and meet us at Embrace Orthodontics™.
